JohnMichael Brain’s inspiration comes from the tranquillity in the infinite reflections that water, light and movement create. When travelling JohnMichael uses the local waterways as the source
for his inspiration. His work is totally oil on canvas which he claims is the only medium suited to his style
to achieve the subtle blends, textures and depth of colour to capture the infinite moods of
reflecting water.

JohnMichael Brain grew up in an artistic household. Throughout his life art has played a dominant role. His profession as a graphic designer, photographer and film producer fulfilled his ever-increasing love of art. His greatest interest is surrealism in bothphotography and painting. As well as predominantly waterscapes, JohnMichael has carried on a family tradition of portrait painting since 2002 entering both the Archibald and Moran portrait prizes. This year 2007 his sitter was His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffrey, Governor
General of the Commonwealth of Australia.
