Born in Grafton in 1959, Julie has worked in the racing industry for most of her life. After receiving a diploma in Commercial art, she pursued this industry part time as working with horses was something she could not fully walk away from.
She worked as secretary and agent for her husband, jockey John Hutchings.
Julie is currently on the Board of Directors of the Clarence River Jockey Club becoming the first woman in history to achieve that position.
Proving that the racing industry is still never far from her mind, horses and jockeys feature heavily in her body of work. She also paints very expressive, textural nudes.
Julie Hutchings has won many awards and has exhibited throughout Australia.
